Garage Door Opener

Advice for your garage door opener how to make it work!

Did you know there is a battery inside your remote? If you don't have a red light shining on it, when you push the button, your battery may be dead. Look to see if there is a slide door on the back. If so, remove the door and you should have access to the battery. If not there should be a screw to remove, thus exposing it. Now you can match it and replace it.

Do you have the right remote? Not all remotes work with all door openers. You can check to see if they are compatable by pushing the button on the back of your opener. This should make a red light turn on. Now push the remote button. If they are compatable, the remote will now work.

Replacement Remotes

If your remote isn't working and you checked the battery, make sure the breaker is turned on at the electrical panel to the garage door opener itself. The lack of power is a common problem, sometimes in frustration people don't think of it.

It may come down to having to buy a new one. If so, you can research one online. Get the manufacturer, model and serial # from the opener and have it handy for reference. There are many places to get one, just make sure it matches your opener.

Universal remotes will work with most newer openers, but beware if the opener is older. The old ones aren't compatable with newer remotes. You may get salesmen trying to make the sale and sell you one that doesn't work.

Sometimes It's Better Money Spent

We had purchased an older home with a seperate garage out back. I was thrilled, I could finally have a shop. The garage was in ok shape but like I said it was older.

So was the garage door opener. There were 6 remotes in there. Surely one of them would work. Get some new batteries and double check everything to see which one worked.

Not one! The only thing that worked was the button on the wall.

So The opener worked but the remotes didn't. I tried the hardware store for a universal remote. My hopes were high, but I was shot down. Universals say they work, but not with mine.

Research on the internet and order a kit to convert my old opener. 2 weeks of waiting later, a reply, we don't ship to your area. Try our affiliate, here's the number.

With frustration setting in, the fact that if I got the conversion kit for $70 and only recieved 1 remote and still had to buy another for $40. I looked around and found a Brand New Opener with 3 remotes On Sale for $179. It was an easy replacement to make.
