Where To Find Free Guitar LessonsMy first stop was to find guitar lessons that I could do at my own pace. I was on the road to playing guitar when I found about.com. They have some good beginner lessons that would teach me some basic chords, scales, strumming patterns and songs. These lessons helped me to understand my guitar more, answering most of the basic questions I had. Plus, I could look forward and back to learn the specifics I wanted. I still refer back to their site today.
I Learned Tequila Sunrise From KirbyThe Ultimate FindThrough my eyes, The Ultimate Find for guitar lessons was - You Tube! After I indulged in the lessons (actually during) in the about.com site, I surfed the internet for some songs that I thought I might like. Not knowing where to look I typed in Hotel California. This brought me to You Tube. There are a variety of sites for Cover songs, (played by others) Actual songs (by the original artists)and Song Lessons. All of the above were posted by various people who just love the artists or the songs played. Not usually posted by the original artist.
Hotel CaliforniaMy first real passion! I looked for the song, hoping to get the riff at the start. To me it was like the crowning glory to playing guitar. If I could learn that, I thought I'd really be something! I found the song taped live. It had the whole thing. The spanish sounding intro, and the riff I was looking for, well the whole thing and it was awesome! They played it too fast for me and I couldn't see what they were doing, so I went back to You Tube and looked up Hotel California Guitar Lesson. Up popped 10 or 15 individual lessons. I clicked on various ones and settled on the one I figured had the best lesson. Saskstrum - was the site that posted it. He went through it step by step and I could speed up or slow down as needed. As it turned out this would be the first song I really learned to play. I was so excited by the sound of each string, there was no way to put the guitar down.

The lessons I picked up were pretty much time limited though. We all know the song Hotel California is played by the Eagles. As it turns out, they don't want the "Regular Joe" stealing their song. When ever the "big boys" find someone posting anything to do with their song, they quickly shut it down. So if you pick a song that falls into that category, learn it quickly, before it is removed like this song was.
