Before You Start
Before you start, one of the most important things in how to build a deck, is you need to make sure there aren't any power or gas lines underground where you plan to dig for your piers.
There have been many serious injuries and even fatalities, from people breaching underground lines. Don't let it be you!
Call before you dig is a free service and could save your life.
What you should do is call them first, then do a material list and organize your material.
By the time all the material is there, the locates should be done.
Tools And Supplies Required
1) Circular saw
2) Framing Square
3) Level (4' - 6' preferred)
4) Drill (Variable Speed)
5) Apron with hammer, tape, chisel and pencil
6) Compressor Hose and Framing Nailer (You can use a hammer and nails if you don't have one, but this is way easier!)
7) Galvanized or ACQ approved (for treated wood) 3 1/2" + 1 3/4" Nails and Screws
8) String Line
9) 3-4" Wall Flashing
10) 2" Drip Cap
11) Material for Construction
12) 1 Coherent Helper (Minimum)
